  • The lifetime risk of women developing breast cancer is one in nine.
  • More than 40,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999.

  • Breast cancer is the second biggest cause of death from cancer in women in the UK.
  • Eighty per cent of breast cancers occur in post-menopausal women.
  • One per cent of breast cancers occur in men.
